We are under a Winter Storm Warning here until 6 PM MDT Thursday and they are predicting 8 to 15 inches of snow for our area. Last night we hauled in a big load of firewood and topped off all the water tanks for the animals.
I just got back in from feeding the llamas and horses. I fed extra and put the blanket on our 29 year old POA Mare, Puff. She's now enjoying a hot mash for breakfast and will belly up to the hay bale when she's done, I'm sure.
The wood stove is cranked up and we're nice and toasty, enjoying a freshly brewed pot of spiced coffee. I might even bake a cake or something to have an excuse to turn the oven on and warm things up just a bit more.
Just for grins, here is a link to the cams in Woodland Park, which is 23 miles to the northeast of us:
Ute Pass Cams
There are two cams in town. The one that says Woodland Park is on the northwest end of town and is frequently not the best viewing because of the snow. The Pikes Peak cam is on the southeast side of town and will give you a better idea of what is actually going on. Woodland Park isn't that big - maybe a mile and a half to two miles from one end of town to the other and the highway runs through it like a big horseshoe; when you get to the west end and are leaving town you can look down at where you came from to get into town at the east end.
I'll try to get photos of the snow later. Right now we only have about an inch but it is snowing and blowing pretty hard out. I got too chilled this morning to go back out to take photos.
That's why I moved back to California. I am not a winter person!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS to say hi. Can I just tell you that it took me awhile to figure out what's in your profile pic! lol Very cool blog and business you've got. I'll have to come back!
Oh, my goodness, I wish I was there....I have been reading your blog for a while, and could not believe you were close to our place in Hartsel. I actually thought you were the ranch on Teller 1 right at the road, we have driven by that place for years, but I think your ranch is not that one....We are in Texas full-time but love our place in the Mountains, and Cripple Creek has a special place in my heart. We love that area and hope to be there one day all the time. My husband told me the weather was getting really rough up there, and it seems early this year. Loved looking at the cams....made me a little homesick for the mountains. Take care....and warm!
ReplyDeleteStay warm! We had our third dump of snow last Saturday!
ReplyDeleteAh, stay warm. I wonder if it is heading North or East.
ReplyDeleteI vote for East.....
Stay warm up there! How about some tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich to enjoy in front of the stove. Great, now I'm making myself hungry ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my I'm not ready to start hearing about snow. I dread it. We will be getting it soon enough and for far too long. I honestly don't know why I stay here considering how much I hate being cold...lol
ReplyDeletePlease don't send it our way. Pleaaasseee!
ReplyDeleteHope you and all the animals stay warm!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're good and prepared which is the most important thing! Don't tell anyone, but I just love to get snowed in!
ReplyDeletesounds just about perfect, if I ever pay of kid debt I would love to take off a few months and feed lamas, carry wood and be generally helpful on a ranch. Ah nirvana ; )
ReplyDeletei saw the storm on the weather channel and it is heading my way. i really like the snow, it's the ice i can live without. have a wonderful toasty day...hugz!
ReplyDeleteSomething about this post was so soothing. I hate snow when I have to drive in it but I love the snow day more than just about anything else about winter. Cuddling up in my blanket, reading a good book, and eating some soup. Ahh, that sounds like the life right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your words of encouragement. It really is so good to know that I have blogger friends out there to give me a virtual hug when I need it.
I hate the cold, but you make it sound so cosy where you are. We are having quite mild weather in the UK at the moment, I hope it stays like this.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like you're in for a big one. I have family and friends in the Denver, CO area and they are in the middle of a huge storm too. I'm not looking forward to the white stuff. I'm sure it will be here soon. Thanks for stopping by today.
ReplyDeleteI would love to spend at least one winter in a place that gets freezing cold and has tons of snow.
ReplyDeleteCold here! Snow and wind and very cold. You are higher so you will have more than us. Still it's hard to do chores and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to November?
Linda
