Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

I want to wish everyone a relaxing, safe and fun Memorial Day weekend! What do you do to celebrate the official start of Summer? Do you go camping? Do you have a cookout on the patio or deck? Share your special way of celebrating this weekend.

We don't have anything special planned for this weekend. We were supposed to be attending and exhibiting at a llama show but the show was canceled due to the outbreak of EHV-1 (equine herpes virus). The show was canceled as a cautionary measure so that exposure to the camelids was reduced. So we have an unexpected "free" weekend!

We plan to set up our smoker and smoke a chicken, a cornish game hen and a couple of hugs slabs of Alaskan Salmon. We'll have enough meat to last the entire weekend without having to cook every day.

Tomorrow we'll probably start shearing llamas and trim toenails as needed. Then we'll relax the rest of the weekend and enjoy our time off.

And I have new rose bushes to get planted. I bought these a couple of weeks ago at Lowe's for only $5!

Holiday Decorations

Start the new year right with a holiday sale!

One of the things I started doing more in 2010 was knitting and crocheting. I bought numerous skeins of handspun art yarn from other fiber artists for my yarn stash and the designed scarves, etc. to showcase those yarns. I've posted most of the already in this blog but I'm going to share a few photos of my favorite pieces from this year.

I found a skein of handspun tailspun yarn from JazzTurtle on Etsy and immediately envisioned a long skinny boa type scarf using that yarn as fringe. I handspun merino wool roving into yarn to create the "canvas" for the fringe and created "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". This scarf sold immediately.

I created several more scarves similar to this one. Two have sold and two are still available in my ArtFire store. Still available are "Spiced Curry" if you like warm colors.

I bought a fabulous skein of handspun art yarn called "Chinese Lantern" from Cool Climates on Etsy, then designed and created this gorgeous long scarf called "Chinese Lantern". This scarf is available in the ArtFire store.

Happy New Year everyone!

Thank you to everyone who took advantage of the sale in my Etsy store over the long holiday weekend. Sales were very slow the first couple of days - well, non-existent actually...but I made enough sales to be pleased overall with how the sale went.

I, on the other hand, took full advantage of the great sales in a variety of on-line stores carrying handmade goods! I can't wait to see all the goodies I ordered. I'm trying very hard this year to make it a mostly handmade Christmas so I hope my friends and family enjoy the handmade gifts I selected for them or made for them myself. I think unique handmade gifts are so special and tell the recipient that you really gave some thought into choosing a nice gift for them.

Daylight Savings Time Sale Extended!

I don't know about the rest of you but I always have a hard time with the Spring Forward Daylight Savings Time change! Yesterday I thought we had changed all the clocks in the house and I was trying to figure out what time it really was because the animals are all still on their normal biological clock and they like their normal schedule and routine for feeding, etc. and I went out to feed at what I thought was 4:30 PM MDT which would be 3:30 MST which is when I normally feed the horses. I got back in the house and looked at the time on the microwave which read 4 PM. Oops, did I just feed at 3 PM on the horses' schedule? Nope, the stove said 5 PM - grrr...so I finally figured out how to set the time on the microwave then went and set the time on the bedroom clock so we could get up at the right time to get to work today. This morning I was all discombobulated (is that a word?!) so I decided that I cannot possibly be the only person struggling with this time change thing and to help make the day a bit brighter and easier I decided to extend my Daylight Savings Time Sale in my etsy store through today.
